QUESTION

We are operating several gasoline stations and I'm planning to create a loyalty program for our customers using your
product. I'm planning to reward our clients based on every liter they purchase from us. Example:

Gasoline Station number 1

For every liter of gasoline/ unleaded = 5 points

For every liter of Diesel = 3 points
Gasoline

Station number 2

For every liter of gasoline/ unleaded = 10points

For every liter of Diesel = 6 points
and so on......

Questions:

1. can I have two different ratios (quantity versus points) in one campaign?

2. can I use only 1 account in managing several gasoline stations?

TIPS / ANSWERS

We do recommend generally having a campaign(s) across all your stations. That way, your customers can still earn and redeem rewards across your network of stations.

Since you want to award points, but don't want to use the amount paid as the basis, I would simply ignore the "$ / Dollar" label and simply enter the amount of liters instead. Then you would also assign a single "base" points-per-liter ratio (ex: 5 pts per liter), and then you can also use the Promotions to change the amount of points earned per liter by station, gasoline type, or temporary promotion. Examples:

"25% more points on Tuesdays!" (if tuesdays are your slowest day)
Promotion Setting: x1.25

"Station ABC - Diesel: 10pts per liter"
Promotion Setting: x2 (2 x 5pts per liter = 10pts per liter)

"Station XYZ - Unleaded: 3pts per liter"
Promotion Setting: x0.6 (0.6 x 5pts per liter = 3pts per liter)

Note: In the upcoming version (v3) of StickyStreet, we'll allow you to change the "label" of the currency, letting you call it what you want, be it "liters" or anything else.

QUESTION

I have an e-commerce site where I want to offer a rewards program. Is there a way to have it automatically update with the customer purchases from my site?

SOLUTION

Although the official answer is "no", technically, there are ways this can be achieved, depending on a few factors.

The program is made for manual entry, but we are working very hard on an "API" that will standardize this type of link with a REST-type of framework through XML.

That said, there are two way around the problem right now:

1) You can send us files to be batch-uploaded periodically. You can read more about this at: http://support.stickystreet.com/forums/16257/entries/10077

2) We have a sort of Quasi-API that can do some basic transaction recording -- with the caveat that its implementation will become obsolete when the new API is implemented. If you are able to send a GET request to a URL and ignore/throw away the output (in PHP, using "curl" and sending the resulting output to a variable that is then ignored.) Here are some instructions below, if you want to play around.

Again, however you implement the request on your end, make sure to ignore/discard any response from our server, which will attempt to return a fully formed HTML page.

=========== THE QUASI-PRE-API ===========

When inserting a new account, create two requests: One to create the customer's account info, and a second to record the activity in a particular campaign.

If you aren't sure if a transaction is for a new or existing account, err on the side of send both requests. In fact, unless you have a way to know for sure that a transaction has had the customer info created, and there has been no changes to that info since, we would recommend that every transaction request is accompanied with a customer account info update request.

For Recording an account's user info

Use this to both record a new account or to edit an existing account's info.

Put together a URL on a _single line_ with the following elements:

https://www.scanandgorewards.com/admin.php?
user_id=AAAAA
&
user_password=BBBBB

FFFFF = the program usually passes on this information as a hidden variable so that a person can't deduct more than there is available. Without a normal API, there's no way to query for the customers current balance to insert here as a max. In this case, you'll probably have to enter the same amount as the quantity to be deducted.

Use ONE of the following:

GGGGG = the exact number of points to be deducted.

HHHHH = the amount, in dollars, without the $ sign (numeric only)

JJJJJ = the reward code: 1231 = 500 points - Free Widget (and more if you define them) (contact me if you can't fid the reward IDs--they are part of the HTML page when rewards are selectable.)

Why is the free plan free?
For several reasons. One is to let
you try it without any obligations. Another is to let you make sure
it's working the way you want before you roll it out to your customers.
Yet another reason is that there are some situations for which we don't
want to charge our clients to use it: like entrepreneurs just starting out, teachers implementing
positive behavior reinforcement strategies (you know, good behavior
points) or parents
using StickyStreet to keep track of their kid's allowance.

Do I need to choose a plan?
You
do not need to choose a plan. StickyStreet will automatically move you
from plan to plan as your needs grow. Once you hit 11 cards, for
example StickyStreet will move you to the first paid plan which is only
$9.95 a month (as of Sept 1, 2008.) As your customer base grows, StickyStreet will simply upgrade your account to the next
billing level which you will see on your monthly statement. You can see the current pricing table at: http://www.stickystreet.com/pricing

How long does my Free Account Last?
As
long as you maintain just 10 or less customers / accounts / people in the system. Teachers need to contact us with proof of employment at a public, not-for-profit educational facility to go beyond the 10 account limit.

How do I pay for StickyStreet?
You
only pay once you have graduated to the first paid plan ( more than 10
customers managed in StickyStreet). When that happens, you will receive
an email invoice which allows you to pay online and set-up automatic
payments if you so choose. StickyStreet uses FreshBooks, another
innovative web 2.0 service to manage our invoicing and billing, so we
can concentrate on what we do best: Make the best online gift and
loyalty tracking and management tool.

Can I have my bill paid automatically each month?
Yes.
Once you receive your first invoice just choose the option to have your
payment paid each month using the same credit card number. You'll still
get an invoice, except it will just note your account is Paid.

Can I pay by company check?
If
you prefer to receive invoices and pay by check, we will be happy to
accomodate you. There is a service charge of $2.00 per month for a
paper invoice. You can mail your payment to our corporate address found
on the contact page.

Are there any transaction fees for StickyStreet?
No. You pay for just what you use, there are no extra fees. Just your monthly plan.

how do i view all my customers at once to see how many etc...what if i have forgotten a name is there a place where i can view all...thx

ANSWER:

To find any customer, on the "lookup" page, simply type in any part of that customer's information (name, phone, email, etc.) and any matching records will be shown to you in a list.

Also, on the main page (we call it the "account control panel" -- the page that is shown when you login) you should see a list of the campaign(s) you have created. This should give you an over all view of how many customers have how many transactions in each campaign.

If you scroll down, you should see a brown bar called "Campaign Reports" and there's a "Show" button to the right. Click the "Show" button, and that section will expand to give you a variety of reports where you can see your customers and their transactions as lists that you can then also export to MS Excel.

Lastly on the account control panel, near the top of the screen, you should see a button labeled "MAnage Customer Records" which allows you to find certain customers and be able to delete them.

ANSWER:

Yes, you need to use following URL template. It will allow you to query your account with the following information:

http://www.clienttoolbox.com/check_code.php?a=XXX&code=BBB&balance_only=CCC

where:

"XXX" is the account ID of your account

"BBB" is the client Card # / Unique ID

"CCC" is the campaign for which the balance is being requested. Note that the campaign name is case-sensitive and any spaces in the campaign name have to be replaced with "%20".

This should thus result in a numerical value being returned, without any HTML formatting.

QUESTION:

We exported our customers into excel with the thoughts of importing them back with a zero balance and to start the new year with a zero balance. We later found out that we can't do that. Soooo.... Please advise?

ANSWER:

As to zeroing out the points, there is no function to do that, but you certainly could start a new campaign called "YourRewards 2010" for example. All your customers would still be found in the system when looked up by card #.

To look them up by part of name or phone number or email address, switch to the 2009 campaign (use the"jump to:" pull-down at the top of the screen), look them up, then use the pull-down again to jump back the new YourRewards 2010 campaign while keeping that customer's record on the screen. Once a transaction is entered, that customer can be new be found by partial match as usual in the 2010 campaign.

(The reason for this is that certain businesses use campaigns for different audiences, and don't want part of their staff to lookup balances for customers in campaigns they don't have access to. Think of an employee rewards campaign, where cashiers should be able to find other cashiers' balances by looking up their name. There are many other examples like that.)

Still, creating a new campaign for the new year will be the easiest way to do what you need, and has the added bonus that if a customer loudly complains about some discrepancy, you can always go into the old campaign and look up their history and ending balance.

QUESTION:

Is it possible to export all the data and send it to us in a universally readable format? There are a number of records that we need to clean up. Please advise and thanks!

ANSWER:

The easiest way to get that information yourself is to run two reports:

1) The "All Customers" report with the default full date-range selected, and then click the "Export to Excel" button.
2) The "All Transactions" report with the default full date-range selected, and then click the "Export to Excel" button.

This will give you ALL the information we have, other than program set-up ratios and your own contact information.

We can, if you need it, output the Database tables in SQL format. However, there's one caveat: Due to the way the program has evolved over the years, there are several "legacy" modes of data distribution across the database tables that our program knows to look for and compensate, and that will certainly cause issues if you were to receive the SQL output and try to import them "as-is" straight into another database.

QUESTION:

I need to implement a rewards program for a store. However, the margins on some items is more than the margins on others. Does your system have the ability to differentiate between a purchase for some types of items vs. other types? My intention is to allot a different number of points for each.

ANSWER:

The best way to solve that problem is to create one or more "promotions" in the campaign's preferences. Once you chose a "base" cost (for example, a gas purchase) then you can define a new promotion called something like "In-Store Purchase". If for example, in-store purchases should earn 20% less points than a gas purchase, then the "In-Store Purchase" promotion would have a multiplier of "x 0.8". If instead they should earn 5% more points, then the multiplier would be "x1.05".

You can in this way create multiple promotions for different profit / margin levels.

The way these get applied is at the point of sale, when the cashier enters the amount spent, they select from the pull-down which "promotion" to apply.

Basically, this is using the promotion capability as a "sales type" or "item category" selector, each pull-down thus being one of the choices.

There's no reason not to also define normal promotions, but with the caveat that you can't apply two "promotions" to the same transaction -- If a promotion needs to apply to a transaction that requires the pulldown to be used (ie: In-Store Purchase") then define a promotion that does both: ex: In-Store purchase earns 20% less points, and you're running a 10% more points on Wednesdays promotion: Create a promotion called "In-Store: Wednesdays Promo" with a multiplier of "x 0.9" (80% + 10% = 90% = x 0.9)

I hope that makes sense, if not, let me know!

QUESTION:

Is there a way to give points from the Show All Customers screen? It would be nice to be able to give a group of customers points all at once, perhaps by checking a box next to selected name(s) and then giving all of the ones selected the same points. I don't see an easy way to give a batch of customers points.

ANSWER:

Yes, there is a way to do what you want:

In the Manage Customers area, you can use the Import Customer Transactions tool to import a list of transactions that add points to a group of customers. ( Control Panel page > Account Information section > Manage Customer Records button > Import Customer Transactions button)

Here's how to do it:

Using the Show All Customers report, export the resulting customer list to Excel.

Once you have this list, get rid of all columns except the "Account ID / Card #" column (should be the third column)

Add a column called "Campaign Name" and copy-paste the name of the campaign into all the cells.

Add another column called "Transaction Amount" where you add the points you want the customers to have added to their account.

Add another column called "Redeem" and copy-paste "N" into all the cells. -- It would be a "Y" if you were redeeming (deducting) those points instead.

You can add an optional "Description" column if you which, with a quick description of the reason for the extra points.

Now, copy the FIRST row with a customer (ignore the row with the column titles), and paste it into the transactions import tool. Make sure that the pull-downs reflect the correct order of the columns you are importing. Now do a test-import of that one customer's new transaction.

If all goes well, and that customer has the extra points added correctly, then copy-paste the rest of the customers into the import tool.

Let me know if you run into any problems.

Question:

When I import my customers from one campaign into another new campaign, out of the 30,000 from the first campaign, only a few show up in the new campaign. What's wrong or what am I doing wrong?

Answer:

The main issue, I believe, is this: Customers don't belong separately to different campaigns.

Hence, there's no need to import a list of customers that already exist. If you do import existing customers, and if you did not check the box "Duplicates? [ ] Overwrite", then only those customers with different unique ID (Card #s) will be imported (and "added") to the campaign you selected.

Here some details on how that works:

For every business (client account) we keep two separate tables of data:

One is the Customers data table (with customers' info, such as name, card #, phone, email, address, etc.)

The other is a Transactions table, where a transaction is keyed to a customer's unique ID (card #) and the campaign that transaction is for, along with the details of the transaction.

The way we figure out which customers "belong" to a campaign is to count (or list) which customers have a transaction for a particular campaign in the Transactions table. If the unique ID (card #) of the transactions that were imported have a matching customer record in the Customers table, then we can display that information when requested (like in reports). This is done because we have some customers who import transactions first (thus creating "blank" customer records for new card #s), and then later import a customer list with the customer details (using "overwrite duplicates").

You can access existing customer info on a brand new campaign either by first looking them up in a campaign where they already have a transaction, and then using the pul-down in the upper right-hand corner of the screen to "traverse" across to this new campaign. Or you can also look up any existing customer in a new campaign using their unique ID (card #) -- but not with any other info (by name, or phone #, etc.) Why can't you look up an existing customer in a new campaign? Because this would pose a security breach for businesses who have different campaigns used by different members of their staff. For example we don't want an employee with access to only one particular campaign to be able to pull up names that only have transactions in a campaign they do not have access to. (And many other different scenarios). The point is that this is the best way that we have found to manage a single customer list used by users with differing permissions to access different campaigns.

So in your case, what you have is an existing list of customers in the Customers table in our database, and in the Transactions table, one or more entries for each customer id (card #) with their transaction details. Hence when first importing new customers into a campaign, you need to create two sets of data to import:

The customer information including the unique ID / Card # to import via the "Import Customers" button.

The same list of card #s but with an amount and a description to import via the "Import Customer Transactions" button.

To create a new campaign, then, all you have to do is use the "Import Customer Transactions" functionality to import the list of unique IDs (card #s) and the transactions that each should have (like their current balance to be transferred, for example). If you want a blank campaign, you can use a balance of 0 (zero) and put in the description "Account Activated" or "Welcome" or some other description. This will be recorded as a transaction for that customer in that campaign, and thus counted in the summary count on the control panel, and will also thus allow you to "go into a campaign" and lookup that customer by any of their known information (name, email, address, etc.)

When I set up a new client, how do I restrict the number of campaigns they can create? In other words, how do I make it where that client does not have access to the 'create a campaign' button once I have them set up?

SOLUTION:

To restrict your client from creating campaigns you need to make a separate login for them, with a different access / permissions level than the owner's (Administrator-level) login that you chose when creating that client. Here how to do it:

1) On the control panel screen (the first screen once you log into the client's account, there is a section called "Manage Authorized Users and their permissions".

2) Click the button on that section labeled "Show" and it will expand to show you what additional authorized users you have created.

3) Click "Add a New User" and select the type of access this user(s) should have. (If I remember correctly, only Administrator-level users can create new campaigns. Manager-level and below cannot.)

QUESTION:

I have a client who is interested in using your services. His site though
is hosted on a ColdFusion server. I've had a look at the QuickEnroll option 2 but it requires PHP. Is this a regular post operation to your server? Do you see any reason I can't utilize a regular form post operation to your server as long as I structure form data correctly? Our hosting account does not offer PHP so that is not an option.

Being that I am not particularly familiar with PHP, are there any special
PHP operations taking place in the register.php file which would prevent me
from using ColdFusion?

Any information that you can provide would be helpful.

Thank you

ANSWER:

You are correct that PHP is not required. Because it is the most prevalent cross-platform programming language for the web and most servers, no matter what flavor, come installed with it, it made sense to give the directions in PHP. However, as you pointed out, all it does is receive the form data and create a background form POST query to our server. This should be fairly easily done with(in) a ColdFusion environment, as long as it has the ability to send out for an external data request (like a cURL request).

The basic flow is as follows:
- A page has the form elements for a customer to give their information.
- This page is submitted to a script (in your case, ColdFusion) that takes the form elements and submits them to our server in the proper format with the desired options (for example, award "sign-up bonus" points)
- With the current version of StickyStreet (soon to change, date not yet set) the server returns a fully formatted, logged-in page, which needs to be ignored (and thus not displayed) by the calling script. (The new version will have a fully REST-based API that will return an XML-formatted success message or error code.

Let me know if you need more information or help implementing it. I would also love to post on this support site the result (code) of your ColdFusion integration inorder to help out anyone else in the same situation (with proper credit, of course!)

QUESTION:

When I run the Balance Report to get the balances of my customers, it shows a different amount of customers than when I run an All Customers report, and that is also a different number than it shows on my "total campaign customers" column on the control panel.

ANSWER:

This is because each report and status is based on an intersection of various criteria:

The "Customer Balance" Report
The "Customer Balance" report only shows customers that have had at least one transaction. Some of the customers in the "Balance Report" may or will show a zero balance because they have had at least one transaction and one redeem event that brought their balance back down to zero.
The reason we don't show customers without transactions in the "Balance Report" is because some of our clients complained that showing a large amount of "latent" customers in the balance report was creating large export files.

The "All Customers" Report
The "All Customers" report shows all the customers in the selected campaign(s) that have at least on transaction OR have been associated (added) to the selected campaigns. The resulting total customer quantity is usually higher than that of the "Balance Report" total customer quantity since there are usually some customers who have been entered into the system but have not had a transaction yet.

The "Campaign Customers" Column in the Control Panel
This should report the same number as if you ran a "All Customers" report for only that campaign. If there exists a discrepancy, it is often due to importing transactions that do not have a corresponding or existing customer record.
To put it another way: The "All Customers" Report counts all Customers Records that are associated with OR have a transaction in a campaign, whereas the "Campaign Customers" count shows the total number of unique ids (customers) that have transactions in that campaign, regardless if there is an existing Customer Record in the database. These differences occur ONLY as a result of using the import tool to do bulk imports of customer records or transactions.

The Total Customers" number for the account
This number simply counts the total number of customers that exist in the Customer Table for your account in our database. It is sometimes the case that a bulk-import has added a lot of customers to that table that haven't been added to any campaign or had any transactions in any campaign. Simply importing a list of customers does not automatically add them to any particular campaign. It may also be the case that the total number of customers reported is less that what is counted for a particular campaign. This is again due to importing transactions that do not belong (yet) to customers that may be imported at a later date.

We use several campaigns. Some we have a customer number of our choosing and others we use the random generate feature. Is there any way to shorten or customise the numbers returned in a generate random number operation?

ANSWER

Unfortunately, the random-number generator is set to 16 numbers and there's no way implemented to shorten that. But the suggestion to allow one to specify the length of the random number is a good one, and I've added it to the feature request queue. It will probably be implemented as a preference in the account settings.

Can my clients check their account balance on my website?
Brilliant
question. Yes. One of the neat features of StickyStreet is the ability
for your clients/customers to check their balance(s) online, in
real-time , on your website. You'll just need to add a couple snipets
of code to your site. Here are the instructions.

What do I need to do put in my website to allow my customers to lookup their balances?
You just need to add a link or a few lines of code, depending on the capabilities of your website: Here are the instructions.

QUESTION:

I'm kinda stuck. I am using Squarespace for both of our sites. They don't offer any PHP so there are several functions I can't utilize. Anthony was seeing if you guys could offer a solution for branding my sign-up page and member look-up page through the "CLOUD" let me know when you have time if this is possible. Thanks for all the work you guys do. I think this product is great!

ANSWER:

I think your best solution is to include the pages without branding inside an iFrame within your Squarespace site, so that the "branding" remains as part of your headers, and you also keep your navigation on the page. (This is one of the reasons why the "non-branded" / "Option 1" exists: for iFrame / Wrapper inclusion on content-managed sites.)

For Squarespace, I found a couple links that show that others have done this:
http://developers.squarespace.com/design-coding/post/368076#post370968

and here are some basic instructions for iFrames:
http://www.w3schools.com/TAGS/tag_iframe.asp

For Joomla users, use a "wrapper":

Joomla 1.5:

http://docs.joomla.org/Screen.menus.edit.15#Internal_Link_-_Wrapper

Joomla 1.0.x:

http://help.joomla.org/content/view/331/153/

In either case, you can then use a URL with parameters, according to the instructions on the site:

http://www.stickystreet.com/balance-lookup.html

http://www.stickystreet.com/enroll-on-your-site.html

QUESTION:

ok I give up! Can't find anything about AutoReward in the FAQ and can't figure out where it is in the User interface?

SOLUTION:

AutoReward is a feature of the Loyalty Link online customer sign-up (ie: when a customer signs up for a rewards program on your site, you can have them automatically receive a "sign-up bonus") and only for Option 2 (the version that you can install on your own website.) The instructions on how to set that up are here:

http://www.stickystreet.com/quickenroll.html

It is, however, not part of the administrative interface, since the transactions are entered manually (or through the import functionality.)

If you are, on the other hand, referring to an ability to automatically dispense rewards once a customer reaches a certain balance level, then that is not a feature we offer yet. Although we realize that in some few cases, a business does want or need their loyalty program to do just that, in most cases, a business isn't all that interested in giving away things that customers haven't specifically asked for. However, because there are quite valid reasons to have automatic rewards, we are planning to add that to the next version of StickyStreet (or shortly thereafter).

QUESTION

=========

Because of our very peculiar and awful POS system, we only have the ability to send the data of customer's purchases in an ASCII text file. Is there a way to input those transactions?

SOLUTION

=========

[2009.03 - Update: The ability to upload our own data is now available in the application: Click on the "Manage Customer Records" on the control panel (the first page once you login) and then select either "Import Customers" or "Import Customer Transactions". Instructions are on those pages.]

Yes, we do provide a way to enter a large amount of transactions at once, however it is not publicly available. The data file can needs to be formated in a variety of formats, and there is a charge for StickyStreet to process that file based on the amount of work that needs to be done to prep the file, if any is needed. Because of the complexity of this topic, the best way to move forward is to talk to our support dept., which you can find on our contact page:

http://www.stickystreet.com/contact-us

Basically, you'll need the following files:

- The first one records the information about (new or updated) customers (name, email, phone, addt'l info, etc.)

- The second one is the transaction details for existing customers

The Transactions file needs to have each customer identified by a unique ID previously manually entered or provided as part of the Customer Information file to be batch-uploaded. Both will need to be in Excel, CSV, or tab or pipe ( | ) separated.

The Customer Profiles file will need the following fields:

- The customer's account number or unique identifier (optional if you do not plan to send transactions batch files, or have your customers be able to lookup their account balances on your website.)

- Their First name (optional)

- Their Last name (optional)

- Their email address (optional)

- Their phone number (optional)

- Text with additional information (optional)

The transaction details file requires the following fields:

- The customer's account number or unique identifier (required)

- The transaction amount (required)

- The campaign name the transaction belongs to (or say which campaign in the email to which this file is attached.)

- The date of the transaction (required)

- Whether it is an "add" event or a "redeem" event. (required)

- Optionally, a transaction description text.

Re: Online Customer Registration: Why am I getting these garbage people?

From: StickyStreet <info@stickystreet.com>

Subject: StickyStreet - Online Customer Registration

Online Customer Registration

The following customer has registered online for an account:

Campaign:	XXXXXXXXXX
Name: vdffzwlasig vdffzwlasig
Email Address:	jnesnf@zujcfy.com
Phone Number:	aZaAXuWtxt
Address:	bxXKQaaqljH
     oULlhsCYZCUrgaV
     LxkoldSQRzwqVuG, rcIJwTogeH PugaJKUn
     qPmPeFutvPpBdDIulR

Addt'l Info:	oimKoGmRCjZbTVR

ANSWER:

That "garbage" you're getting is the result of "bots" roving the web to try to usurp email-sending programs in order to send out spam. They typically fill-in the type of junk that you see, and then check if they were able to successfully subvert the sending system and get that email back. If so, they can then turn that site into a spam-sending center. Another type of junk you may receive is form-spam, usually touting "WoW Gold" (World of Warcraft monetary units that can be purchased on the "black market")

The sign-up forms cannot be usurped for sending spam, but they are still vulnerable to 'bots filling-in garbage and form-spam. The only way to mitigate this is to use a form of verification called "CAPTCHA" where your customers when signing-up have to identify a code in slightly distorted letters and numbers in a graphic. To implement such a system, you can forward the following support article to your web-design team that details one way to implement a CAPTCHA system:
http://support.stickystreet.com/forums/16257/entries/33091

Another way is to use/link the "option 1" enrollment form at our sub-site, RewardsPixie.com, in a new window:

http://www.rewardspixie.com/signup.php?a=AAAAA&b=BBBBB&c=CCCCC&d=DDDDD

as detailed in the following page of the StickyStreet site:

http://www.stickystreet.com/quickenroll.html

Either option should stem the amount of junk submissions you are getting, but these systems are smart and often employ AI-based programs that learn the nuances of CAPTCHA fields, and staying ahead of these abusers if not downright crooks is a constant cat-and-mouse game.

PROBLEM:

I love sticky street. But as a designer who hosts her own web site, I
just wish there was an easy way to customize the tracking of the
points page without needing php. I don'twant to pop up a third party
site, I want a seamless option that fits right into my design, but
don't have a server for the php.

TIP:

The vast majority of hosting companies have PHP pre-installed in their servers, no matter which platform (Windows, Unix, etc.) It's really, really rare for PHP not to be available on a hosting service.

That said, the code we had up about a month ago did give a lot of people some trouble because the safest possible setting for PHP -- which a lot of hosting companies use -- did not allow inclusion of outside code. We've uploaded a new type of PHP code that works with that very secure setting. You can find the new instructions here:

http://www.stickystreet.com/support/loyaltylink-instructions-support.html

If on the other hand, you really don't have access to PHP, call your hosting company and ask them if they can install it for you. There's really no reason for them not to.

If you don't know how to find out if you do have PHP installed or not, simply try this:

Create a file with the following three lines only inside it:

<?php
echo phpinfo();
?>

Name it something with .php as the ending, such as "phpinfo.php" and upload it to your server.

Then point a browser to it. (ie: http://www.yoursite.com/phpinfo.php)

You should get a screenful of information about PHP if it is indeed installed, or the content of the file like it was a text file, if it's not.

As you are probably discovering, there are a lot of great differences between us and the other guys that manage loyalty and gift card campaigns. One of the innovations that we are most proud of is the Loyalty Link.

It's a great way to encourage customers to return to your website again and again, and it's a great way to harness all of the data you collect about your customers and put it to work for you!

Very simply, Loyalty Link is a feature that you can add to any part of your website that allows customers to enter their user information and access their loyalty and gift card balances.

It's not just convenient for customers, it gives them a reason to keep coming back to your website again and again, where you can clue them in on your new products or services, your special promotions, and what's new with your business.

Here are a few imagined scenarios:

Heather receives a gift card to your restaurant for her birthday. She goes to the restaurant website to see how much is on the card and while she is there, she spots your Free Dessert Friday promotion. She invites all of her girlfriends out with her on Friday night.

Bob is surfing your website looking to buy a canoe, which is on his wish list but which he'??s on the fence about. While looking, he types his information into the Loyalty Link to check his loyalty points. He sees that if he buys the canoe, heâ??ll get a discount from his reward points.

Anne visits your clothing website to check her gift card balance on Loyalty Link. While looking at her account, she sees that her gift card account doubles as a reward program. She makes a mental note to come back to your site the next time she is looking for new clothes so that she can work toward her reward.

Pretty great, right?

How do you get a Loyalty Link on your website? There are two different options: you can do it yourself or we can do it for you.

If you want to do it yourself, go to our Loyalty Link instructions page, where we offer you clear and easy steps to cutting and pasting the code into your website.

If you don't know what "code" is, or "cutting and pasting" for that matter, you can give us a call or email us and we can set you up for a small fee. This is also a good option for you if you simply don't have the time or inclination to mess with the computer end of things. It usually takes us about a day to install.

It's that simple. Unlike solutions that are part of your internal point of sale (POS), you can use the information on StickyStreet to boost your business through Loyalty Link, not trap it inside your computer or in one of those credit card terminals. At StickyStreet, we put information to work.

PROBLEM:

I ran into a problem checking the rewards program status. It returns an error screen with the message ERROR.

The link is:

http://www.rewardspixie.com/index.php?a=myaccountid&lang=AAA&sep=BBB&balance_only=CCC

Could you please check this for us and let me know what I can do to resolve the problem?

SOLUTION:

The problem with the link that you sent is that it needs to have extra "features" removed if they are not going to be used. In this case, it looks like the Language, Comma/Period separator, and "Balance-Only" are not relevant, so your link should look like:

http://www.rewardspixie.com/index.php?a=myaccountid

If you wanted to get the results in Italian, for example, you would add "&lang=IT" to the URL, like:

http://www.rewardspixie.com/index.php?a=myaccountid&lang=IT

(Not all languages are enable -- let us know if you need a specific one)

In the link that you gave, the program was looking for a language called "AAA", and seems to have gotten confused on the meaning of a separator called "BBB" (when it's looking for either "." or ",") etc.

But you bring home a good point, that we should make the program ignore entries that seem to have been copy-pasted from the example URLs, so that if the person doesn't understand how URLs work, that the link still does. :-)

QUESTION:

I want to upload a batch of Customer Transactions for one of our campaigns (event-based reward), do I need to put a “1” in each customer’s cell for the “transaction amount” ? Or, does it automatically recognize this as “1 event” and I can just upload the transactions with the customer ID and Campaign name (no other fields) ?

ANSWER:

You can skip that field, actually. The minimum you'll need to provide in the data to be imported is:

Columns:
     Campaign Name, Account ID/Card #, Redeem (Y/N)
Sample Data:
    Campaign Name, 11111, N

The 'N' (or 'Y') is required for StickyStreet to know whether the transaction is a "redeem event" or one where an "even" is added. In this case, you should just be able to add an N to the last column in your Excel worksheet, and copy the cell to all the other cells in that column in just a few seconds.

For redeem events, with the 'Y', an additional field with the amount is necessary, to specify how many 'events' to deduct from the balance.

Cheers!

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2900

However, the article also states that this can be bypassed by specifically allowing sites that you want to be able to access:

Go to your Apple Menu

Select System preferences

Click on the Accounts icon

Click on the Lock at the bottom left, if it's locked, to unlock it.

Enter an administrator's username and password.

Select the User that is being "parent controlled"

Click the Button "Open Parent Controls"

Select the user again from the list on the left.

Click the "content" tab

If using the "Try to Limit Access to Adult Websites Automatically:

Click the "Customize" button under the "Website Restrictions" section

Under the "Always Allow These Sites:" box, click the "+" icon to add a URL

type in: https://www.scanandgorewards.com

Click "OK"

If instead, you're using the "Allow Access Only to These Sites:" option

Click the "+" icon to add a site

Select "Add Bookmark"

Type in "StickyStreet" (or "Brainwaves Rewards") as the "Web site title"

Type in: "https://www.scanandgorewards.com" as the "Address"

Click OK

Close the System Preferences window.

You should now be able to access the StickyStreet service.
